ELM - Y2

Jonathan's Jungle

Elm class enjoyed their visit from Jonathan's Jungle.

Elm Class have been learning about where food comes from and why we need to eat healthy meals.

They designed their own salads and made them in class, practising their bridge and claw method.

Print Making

In Art, children have been learning about print making. They have looked at prints made by local artist Phillip Kingsbury.

Phillip Kingsbury uses lino to make prints about Malmesbury, his home town. The children enjoyed seeing these as many of the images were familiar from their study of Malmesbury in History.

The children used these as inspiration to design and make their own cuts out of foam.

Some children chose to cut their foam to make the shape of a bridge or Malmesbury Abbey; others chose their own designs.

The children then used rollers to paint the foam boards and make a print.

Trip to Malmesbury

Elm Class enjoyed a trip to Malmesbury as part of their local history topic. We have been learning about King Athelstan, Eilmer the flying monk, the Market Cross and of course Malmesbury Abbey.

First of all was a visit to Malmesbury museum, where children were delighted to see the Turner painting of Malmesbury Abbey that we have looked at in class. We also had a Guided Walk from Councillor Campbell Ritchie who took us on a short walk which included the well in the Rausing Buildings, the Market Cross and Hannah Twynnoy's grave in Malmesbury Abbey graveyard.

We also visited King Athelstan’s tomb and saw the stained glass window showing Eilmer.

After lunch and some outside play, we walked to the library, which we learned used to be a school. We were able to choose and read some books and take them out on our library cards! We finished with a story before catching the bus back to school.

English

In English, we have been reading a Wishing Tale called the Magic Bojabi Tree. The children tried mango, watermelon and pomegranate as this is what the fruit on the tree looks and smells like. Some of the children tried this for the first time – the mango was the most popular!

Gymnastics

In gymnastics children have been learning how to do a forward roll. The children all mastered this really well and enjoyed the activity.
