Week Commencing 08.06.20
For English and Maths please continue to pick and choose the activities that will work best for you and your child from the lessons set out for each day.
Spellings this week are focusing on plurals and what happens to words ending in ‘y’ when we add ‘ies’: flies, babies, carries, lorries, jellies, cries. Please could your child practise these 6 words every day and then could you please test them at the end of the week. They could also find out what each word means or write 6 sentences each one to include one of their spelling words.
Phonics work for this week is looking at alternative spellings of ‘igh’. Activities can be found on www.phonicsplay.co.uk under Phase 5C Weeks 8-30 Investigating Alternative Spellings ‘igh’.
I have set 5 ‘To do’ activities on Purple Mash: Bubbles; Quiz adding –es; Time mixed; ‘Toy shelf and Just Wheels.
The R.E. this week involves investigating ‘How do Hindus show their faith?’ Watch the clip www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02n5xj7 about Simran and her brother Vraj who are British Hindus. Discuss what was important to each child. Using the Jigsaw template found by clicking on the tab labelled ‘R.E. Jigsaw’ get the children to draw and write about either Simran or Vraj’s important things. How do they differ from their important things?
Our Topic activity is to find out about the heart and heart rate which is linked to our investigation next week called ‘Why should I exercise?’. Click on the tab labelled ‘Science – The Heart’ to read the essential knowledge and the pre-investigation tasks that need to be carried out.
For D.T. the children need to design and make a balloon powered car which could race another car. You could make it out of anything you would like to such as lego or junk materials.
I will be checking the class email daily so I am available should you need to contact me. However as we have some children back in school I will not necessarily be able to check my emails until the end of the school day.
Finally please do continue to pick and choose what suits you and your family best.
