Believe to Achieve! "Roots will grow down into God's love and keep us strong" EPH 3:17

Week Commencing 18.05.20

Dear Parents,

Here we are at the end of Term 5!

English and Maths will continue in the same way with a lesson for each day. Please pick and choose the activities that will work best for you and your child.

Spellings for this week are focusing on adding the suffix ‘ness’: happiness, loveliness, silliness, kindness, fitness, sadness. Please could your child practise these 6 words every day and then could you please test them at the end of the week. They could also find out what each word means or write 6 sentences each one to include one of their spelling words.

Phonics work for this week is looking at alternative spellings of ‘ure’. Activities can be found on www.phonicsplay.co.uk under Phase 5C Weeks 8-30 Investigating Alternative Spellings ‘ure’.

I have set 5 ‘To do’ activities on Purple Mash:- 3D Shapes; Bond Bubbles; Little Red meets the Wolf; Three Flowers and Growing Plants.

The R.E. lesson is about ‘Centurions Servant’. If you click on the tab labelled ‘R.E. Centurions Servant’ you will find the R.E. work for this week.

Our Topic activity is to do the ‘Primary Wellbeing Challenge’ which involves carrying out a variety of activities to enable you to submit an entry into a competition (the closing date for entries is Monday 25th May). Alternatively you could just enjoy doing some or a few of the activities. Please click on the tab labelled ‘Primary Wellbeing Challenge’.

Art links with our topic ‘The Scented Garden’. I would like your child to look at and be inspired by a famous artists work, some artists and their work to look at are: Judith Leyster’s ‘Tulip’, Monet’s ‘Blue Water Lillies’, Georgia O’Keefe’s ‘Oriental Poppies’, Manet’s ‘Lilacs in a Vase’, Andy Warhol’s ‘Flowers’, Hokusai’s ‘Bullfinch on a Weeping Cherry’, Jan Brueghel’s ‘A Vase of Flowers’ or Van Gogh’s ‘Vase with Pink Roses’. They can then create their own floral collage using fabric, paper or by drawing and colouring it.

I will be checking the class email daily so I am available should you need to contact me. It has been lovely to see the class’ work on our Elm class web page so do please keep sending me pictures.

Please do continue to pick and choose what suits you and your family best.

I hope you all have a relaxing half term.

Take care

Sally Cross
