Week Commencing 20.04.20
Welcome back to Summer Term 1. I hope you have all enjoyed a lovely, relaxing Easter holiday and are ready for some Home learning.
Daily Maths and English activities for year 3 and year 4 can be found on the tabs to the left.
Our new topic is ‘I am Warrior!’
We are brave, powerful warriors, and we will meet in battle! This half term, we’ll research Roman warriors. Using different source materials we’ll investigate the Roman Empire. After designing and making Roman weapons, we may test them in battle and practise our attacking and defending skills. The Celtic warrior queen, Boudicca, will inspire us to create models and artwork. We’ll create advertising posters for gladiators and investigate ‘Did the Romans use toilet paper?’ Using maps, globes and information books, we’ll compare Britain (the home of the Celts) and Rome (the home of the Romans).
Every Friday, Home learning for the following week will be put on the class webpage including Year 3 and 4 spellings to practise. There will also be 5 Purple Mash activities to do during the week set as 2Do’s on the Purple Mash website.
Please use the Birch email to contact me if you have any queries or questions. Enjoy your learning!
Please watch this clip https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/znwhfg8/articles/zh77vk7 on BBC Bitesize. The film tells you lots of things about the Jewish day of rest called Shabbat. Draw some of the things that you would find on a Shabbat dinner table. Add labels and descriptions of the items. Next add some speech bubbles saying what Jewish people are remembering at Shabbat. You could also add in extra things you have found out about Shabbat.
Topic-I am Warrior ! (History)
Use a range of historical and online source materials to read, research and organise a timeline showing the the Roman Empire, from 753 BC to AD 476 with a particular focus on the dates the Romans were in Britain. Sequence main events, battles, invasions and individuals on their timeline. Useful websites:-

Topic-I am Warrior ! (Art)
Make a weapon such as a Roman pilum (throwing spear), a pugio (Roman dagger), cassis (Roman helmet) or Celtic javelins, hammers, axes and swords. Please work safely and avoid any pre-battle injuries! Google images has lots of examples.
Make sure your design is sturdy. Evaluate whether your design would survive a brutal and bloody battle! If possible, email a photo of your finished design to the Birch email address.
